The Chariton County Commission is an elected three-member governing body made up of a Presiding Commissioner, Eastern District Commissioner and a Western District Commissioner. Each Commissioner is elected to a four-year term. The County Commission operates under guidelines established in the Revised Statutes of the State of Missouri.

The duties of the County Commission include:
  • Oversee all aspects of county government
  • Approve and adopt the annual budget for all county departments
  • Enact ordinances, resolutions, and policies
  • Supervise the Road & Bridge Department
  • Make appointments to numerous county boards and committees
  • Maintain all county buildings, property and equipment
  • Act as a liaison to other local, state and national governmental entities
The County Commission also represents the county on the following regional boards:

The County Commission meets in regular session every Monday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. The meetings are open to the public and citizens are invited to attend. To be added to the agenda, please contact one of the Commissioners or the County Clerk at least two business days in advance.
